PALATINE, Ill. – Facing a 17-point first half deficit, the Harper College men's basketball team closed the half on an 8-0 run to cut the Mid Michigan Community College lead to 33-24 at halftime.
The Lakers came storming out of the gates in the second half, using an 18-2 run to take a 51-26 lead on their way to a 75-36 victory to end the Hawks' season.
Mid Michigan (15-11) shot 53.3 percent (16-of-30) in the second half and 46.6 percent for the game. The Hawks (9-22) were led by Davion Benton (Chicago, Ill. /Alcott College Prep) with 10 points and 14 rebounds. Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie) added eight points, and Randy Hewitt (Chicago, Il/Roycemore School) scored six. Erick Layton scored a game-high 22 points for the Lakers, and Lane Simon and Tommie Henderson had 12 each.
Mid Michigan moves on to play at #3 seed Madison College (17-10) at 7 PM on Wednesday night.
