Box Score MADISON, Wis. – The Harper College volleyball team was dealt a tough five-set loss at No. 1 Madison College on Tuesday night, 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 21-25, 11-15. The Hawks (19-9, 5-2 N4C) led the match 2-0, but the WolfPack (18-4, 6-1 N4C) came from behind to win the final three sets and extend their overall winning streak to 15 matches.
Offensively, the Hawks totaled 58 kills as a team, led by 18 from Daniele Sortino (Elk Grove Village, Ill. /Elk Grove). Shannon Igielski (Streamwood, Ill/St. Edward) (14 kills) and Adriana Loiacono (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) (11 kills) both eclipsed double digits in kills as well. Setter Katelyn Sommers (/Buffalo Grove) tallied 45 assists to go along with 23 digs. Sommers also was a perfect 20-of-20 from the service line with an ace.
Defensively, the Hawks totaled 107 digs and 6.5 blocks. Libero Meghan Chartier (Inverness, Ill./Buffalo Grove) had 25 digs and was also 25-of-25 serving. Kayla Mayer (/Wauconda) totaled 19 digs, and Jillian Hoffman (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey) had 15. Sortino led the team in blocks with 2.5, followed by Sarah Berggren (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) with two.
Madison was more efficient on the attack in the match with a .253 attack percentage, compared to .202 for Harper. In the final set, the Hawks led 11-10 but missed a crucial serve and went on to lose the next five points to lose the match.
