Box Score PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's basketball team trailed No. 20 Triton College by a point heading into the fourth quarter of Saturday's N4C showdown. The Trojans played a solid final quarter, outscoring the Hawks 19-8 to prevail, 59-47.
Triton (13-5, 2-0 N4C) led 14-10 after one, but Harper (4-12, 0-2 N4C) led 26-23 at halftime after playing well in the second quarter. Lane Winkler (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows) led a balanced Hawks attack with six points at the break while the Trojans' Tashianna Walton scored 12 points.
The Trojans regained the lead in the third quarter and took a 40-39 edge into the final frame. Walton, Candace Madison, and Alondra Chavarria teamed up to shut down the Harper offense and did plenty of scoring between the trio. Walton scored 14 of her game-high 26 points in the second half while Chavarria (12 points, seven rebounds) came up with key baskets and steals on the defensive end. Madison was a force on the glass and finished the game with a double-double of 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Winkler and point guard Kim Herzog (/Buffalo Grove) each finished with 10 points for the Hawks. Ashonte Sims (Bloomington, Ill. /Normal Community West) tallied eight points and nine rebounds, and Tamara Zivak (/Barrington) added six points and nine rebounds.
The Hawks take a short break from conference play as they host South Suburban College (9-11) on Monday at 5 PM.
