Hawks Doomed by Cold Shooting in Opener

Dover tallied a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) for the Hawks Tuesday.

Palatine, Ill- The Harper men's basketball team dropped its first game of the season on Tuesday with a 74-88 loss to Kishwaukee College. The Hawks trailed by nine points at the half and cut it to six early in the second half, but the Kougars quickly built a 15 point lead with 11:54 to go and the margin was 23 points with just 4:08 left in the game.

The Hawks battled back to cut the lead to 14, but it was too late as they were doomed by cold shooting all night. Overall, Harper shot 37 percent (27-73) including just 21 percent from downtown (6-28). Harper also committed 26 personal fouls putting Kishwaukee on the line far too often in the second half. On the night, the Kougars outscored the Hawks by nine points from the charity stripe.

Harper was led by Marquis Woodard with 16 points (7-16 shooting, 8 steals) and Marcus Dover (Schaumburg, Ill. /Conant) with 11 points (5-15 shooting, 10 rebounds). Freshman Joey Gatziolis also had a nice game scoring 12 points on 50 percent shooting (4-8).

Next up for Harper is Elgin Community College (1-0) on Nov. 4 at Elgin. Tip-off is set for 7PM.
