Palatine, Ill- The Harper College men's basketball team found out the hard way just how important freethrows can be down the stretch. In a back and forth affair the Hawks (1-9) converted on only 50 percent of their freethrows (8-16 FT's), dropping the game 62-67 to visiting Morton College. The visitors shot had 6 more attempts from the line than the host Hawks and converted eight more times (16-22 FT's).
Harper trailed by one at the break in a game of numerous lead changes. The Hawks featured a balanced offensive attack with Nick Whiting (4 assists),
Quandell McGhee (/Rich East) (2 assists), and Chima Oduocha (6 rebounds) all recording nine points. Joey Gatziolis (9 rebounds) and
Marquis Woodard (/Schaumburg) (3 assists) added eight apiece.
Morton was led by Jamari Carthans who tallied 11 points.
The Hawks look to get their second win of the season on Dec. 3 when they travel to battle Moraine Valley Community College. The Cyclones are coached by former Harper head coach, Tony Amarino. Amarino is in his first year with Moraine Valley.
