Gatziolis, Oduocha lead Hawks Past Cyclones

Palatine, Ill- Led by double-doubles from freshman Joey Gatziolis and Chima Odoucha, the Harper College men's basketball team picked up its first win, 99-88, against an NJCAA opponent on the season.

Gatziolis, despite not attempting a three pointer on the night, finished with 23 points and ten rebounds (8-14 FG, 7-9 FT) to pace the Hawks. The lengthy forward showed off his whole arsenal in the performance. He finished acrobatic layups at the rim and knocked down pull up jumpers all night long.

Odoucha was far too much to handle for Moraine Valley. The center finished with 22 points and 17 rebounds (8-13 FG, 5-8 FT's). The freshman was constantly active on the glass and was rewarded by the numerous putback layups.When Odoucha did receive with his back to the basket, he used a wide array of footwork and finishes to tally his points.

The Hawks trailed by 11 at the half, but rallied to outscore their opponent by 22 in the second half. Despite only shooting 21 percent from behind the arc, Harper picked up the slack with strong free throw shooting (75 percent) and easy baskets (48.6 percent from the field).

Next up for Harper is Oakton Community College on Dec. 6 in Des Plaines. Tip-off is set for 7PM.
