Box Score GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – Harper College men's basketball point guard Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie) had a career night scoring the basketball on Wednesday evening at College of DuPage. The sophomore poured in a career-best 33 points and also had 11 rebounds and eight assists. Despite Gatlin's efforts, the Hawks were edged by the Chaparrals, 78-69.
Gatlin was 10-of-25 from the field and 11-of-16 from the foul line. The Hawks (10-17, 1-10 N4C) led 31-29 at halftime. Sophomores Abdul Mushtaq (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) and Allias Burnett (Joliet, Ill. /Joliet West) added 14 and 12 points, respectively. Marcus Dover (Schaumburg, Ill. /Conant) had seven points and seven rebounds. Harper shot 34.9 percent (22-of-63) overall.
The Chaparrals (16-9, 4-7 N4C) got a monster game from Moter Dang, who had 27 points on 12-of-20 shooting to go along with 15 rebounds. They also got a big boost from Christian Mathis, who scored 18 points in 20 minutes off the bench. Starting guard Marcel Phillips scored 10 points. DuPage shot 45.7 percent (32-of-70) and won the battle on the glass, outrebounding Harper 49-38.
The Hawks travel to Joliet Junior College (19-8, 7-4 N4C) on Saturday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 PM in the A.A. Wills Gymnasium.
