Box Score JOLIET, Ill. – The Harper College men's basketball team and the Joliet Junior College men's basketball team shot nearly identical percentages from the field on Saturday night. The major difference came in the rebounding category, as the host Wolves controlled the glass by a 47-27 margin. As a result, Joliet (20-8, 8-4 N4C) defeated visiting Harper (10-18, 1-11 N4C), 77-57.
The Hawks received solid production from its three sophomores. Allias Burnett (Joliet, Ill. /Joliet West) paced Harper with a game-high 21 points (9-of-18 shooting) and seven rebounds, and Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie) chipped in 17 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Abdul Mushtaq (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) scored 10, and Marcus Dover (Schaumburg, Ill. /Conant) had nine points and 11 assists.
Kiwane Crowder scored a team-best 14 points for the Wolves and ripped down sex rebounds. Robert Brooks (12 points) and Daymeann Stewart (10 points) both reached double figures scoring, and Patrick Kenny (eight points, seven rebounds) led the team in rebounding in just 19 minutes of action. Thirteen players saw action for Joliet, and no player eclipsed 28 minutes.
Harper shot 39.3 percent (22-of-56) on the night and only converted 6-of-12 free throws. The Hawks also lost the turnover battle, 17-13, to Joliet. The Wolves converted 38.9 percent (28-of-72) of their shots and made 13-of-16 from the foul line. Joliet held a 41-24 lead at halftime.
The Hawks will play their final two regular season games this week. On Wednesday night, they host #10 Milwaukee Area Technical College (21-6, 8-4 N4C) at 7 PM. Wednesday is Sophomore Night for Harper College, as the program will honor its three sophomores prior to the start of the game. Harper wraps up its regular season slate with a trip to Madison College on Saturday, Feb. 20. Tipoff is set for 3 PM in the H. Douglas Redsten Gymnasium in Madison, Wisconsin.
