Harper Loses Regular Season Finale at Madison

MADISON, Wis. – The Harper College women's basketball team struggled to find an offensive rhythm in its final regular season game at No. 5 Madison College on Saturday afternoon. The Hawks shot just 24.5 percent (12-of-49) from the floor and committed 25 turnovers in a 69-33 loss to the WolfPack.

The Hawks (4-23, 0-12 N4C) took an early lead on a Lexi Zades (/Conant) 3-pointer. The WolfPack (25-3, 9-3 N4C) responded with a 9-0 run of their own, including five points from top scorer Jenna Endres (game-high 15 points). A pair of Ashonte Sims (Bloomington, Ill. /Normal Community West) baskets kept the Hawks within range after a quarter as they trailed 15-9.

Harper struggled to score in the second quarter, getting only a pair of free throws from Mary Saitta (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates) and a jumper from Lane Winkler (Arlington Heights, Ill./Rolling Meadows). Madison outscored Harper 16-4 in the second and led 31-13 at halftime. The fifth-ranked WolfPack built up a bigger lead with 23 third quarter points. They shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) for the game while also holding  a significant rebounding advantage, 48-28.

The Hawks scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, highlighted by a Shannon Koch (Mount Prospect, Ill. /Prospect) 3-pointer with 1:17 remaining. Zades led the team with nine points on 4-of-6 shooting. Saitta added eight points, and Ashonte Sims (Bloomington, Ill. /Normal Community West) had five points and eight rebounds. The WolfPack got double figures scoring from Endres (15 points), Megan Petty (12 points), Rachel Slaney (11 points) and Bri Hicks (10 points).

Harper will now focus its attention on postseason play beginning Tuesday. The Hawks travel to Joliet Junior College (15-12) for a 5 PM Region IV Quarterfinal matchup. The winner will advance to the Region IV Semifinals on Friday. To view the full Region IV Tournament bracket, click here.

The Wolves defeated the Hawks in their two prior matchups this season by identical 57-33 scores on Jan. 20 at Harper College and Feb. 13 at Joliet Junior College.
