Box Score RIVER GROVE, Ill. – Slowing down the top-ranked team in the country at the NJCAA Division II level proved to be a tough task for the Harper College men's basketball team Wednesday. The Triton College Trojans shot 57 percent on the night and cruised to a 105-67 win over the Hawks in front of a crowd of 400 inside the Robert M. Collins Center gymnasium.
Harper (10-15, 1-8 N4C) shot a solid 45 percent (27-of-60) on the night. Abdul Mushtaq (Wheeling, Ill./Wheeling) canned seven 3-points and finished with 21 points. Point guard Marcus Gatlin (Chicago, Ill./Curie) had 18 points on 8-of-18 shooting and dished out nine assists. Marcus Dover (/Conant) scored 15 points (7-of-12 shooting) and grabbed five rebounds, and Hawks top scorer Allias Burnett (Joliet, Ill. /Joliet West) had 10 points and six rebounds.
Triton (23-2, 9-0 N4C) was 45-of-79 from the field and remained unbeaten in conference play with the win. Percell Washington was a blistering 12-of-13 from the field for a game-high 24 points to go along with 10 rebounds. John Joyce (13 points) and Mike Moss (11 points) both came off the bench to score in double figures. While the Trojans' shooting display was impressive, their work on the glass was even more impactful, as they outrebounded the Hawks 51-18 in the game.
The Hawks look to get back on track Saturday afternoon against Wilbur Wright College (1-22, 0-9 N4C). Harper picked up its lone N4C win of the season over Wright on Jan. 13. Tipoff is slated for 3 PM inside the Wellness & Sports Center.
