Udoni, Serving Propel Harper over RVC

PALATINE, IL-  The #1 ranked Harper College volleyball team traveled to Rock Valley to take on N4C opponent RVC Golden Eagles and finished a three-set sweep in dominating fashion.

Emily Huprich (/Elgin) got things started with some great serving to put the Hawks up early 6-1.  Breanna Cullen (/Oregon) then took over and extended the lead to 14-2.  After a 20-5 lead, the Hawks rolled to a 25-12 first set win.  Ellie Burzlaff (/Harvest Christian) led the Hawks with 4 kills while Sarah Udoni (/Palatine) had 3 kills on 3 swings to get warmed up for her monster day.  Mackenzie Bush (/Bartlett) also had 3 kills in a set where Emily Huprich (/Elgin) finished with 12 assists.  Ariana Chelini (/Crystal Lake South) paced the Hawks' defense with 7 digs.  Huprich and Cullen finished 14-16 seving with 3 aces.

The start of the second set saw the first and only tie of the match, as the Hawks then took off for a 5-2 lead.  Harper would remain ahead for the rest of the set, with leads of 8-3, 12-9, 18-12, and 22-18 before winning 25-19.  Sarah Udoni (/Palatine) took off in the set as she lead the team with 6 kills and added a block.  Ariana Chelini (/Crystal Lake South) and Ellie Burzlaff (/Harvest Christian) each had 5 digs to pace the team.

In what would prove to be the match-deciding set, the Hawks left no room for the Golden Eagles to make a comeback.  After a 3-0 lead, Harper would pour it on for leads of 10-2 and 16-3 on the way to finishing the match by a score of 25-8.  Sarah Udoni (/Palatine) once again led the team with another 4 kills and 2.5 blocks.  Ellie Burzlaff (/Harvest Christian) and Breanna Cullen (/Oregon) contributed 3 kills each while Ariana Chelini (/Crystal Lake South) had 7 more digs.

Udoni had an extremely efficient match, totaling 13 kills on 17 attempts with only one hitting error.  She did not stop on the offensive side as she also finished with 4.5 blocks.  Ellie Burzlaff (/Harvest Christian) also posted double-digit kills, finishing with 11 kills on 30 swings.  Ariana Chelini (/Crystal Lake South) led the team with 3 aces and 17 digs while Emily Huprich (/Elgin) finished with 36 assists when the team finished with 43 kills.  Head coach Bob Vilsoet was happy with how the Hawks attacked and played a complete team game saying, "We had some booming his in this match.  Harper brought their A-game today.  But those hits don't happen without excellent passing and setting first.  It was a fun match to watch for Harper fans."

Harper is now 28-5 overall and 10-0 in the N4C.  Harper will host second place in conference Madison College on Tuesday, October 17 in what promises to be a classic.  In their last meeting, the Hawks took down the #2 WolfPack in four incredible sets.
