Free Throws, Turnovers Doom Hawks at Wright

Box Score PALATINE, IL-  The Harper College men's basketball team started off their second half of N4C play at Wilbur Wright on Saturday.  After playing a tightly contested first half, the Hawks ended up losing 82-69.

Wilbur Wright got things started with a couple of quick baskets but the Hawks were able to stay in striking distance for the majority of the first 10 minutes.  Patience seemed to pay off for Harper as they were able to tie the game, then take the lead with about 4 minutes remaining in the half.  Unfortunately, Harper took a few shots too quickly and Wright was able to capitalize and the Hawks found themselves trailing 32-28 at half.

The second half seemed to be an extension of the end of the first as Harper just could not close the gap.  Turnovers and missed free throws would come back to doom the Hawks.  Harper ultimately fell to the Rams by a final score of 82-69.

Although Harper (3-20, 1-7 N4C) was efficient from the floor, shooting 46% overall including 43% from three, they were their own worst enemy as they committed 22 turnovers and shot 14-27 from the free throw line.  Jesse Young once again led the team with 25 points, 2 blocks, and 3 steals while Joe Gatziolis chipped in 15 to go along with 8 assists. Corin Daniel had 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals.

The Hawks will host the Rock Valley Golden Eagles and will look to get revenge from their first meeting.  On January 6, the Hawks lost 96-66.  Tip off is scheduled for 7pm at Robert Morris in Arlington Heights.
