Hawks Eliminated in Region Semifinals

Box Score PALATINE, IL-  The Harper college men's basketball team traveled to Rock Valley for the first round of the Region IV tournament.  Despite an early lead, the nationally ranked Golden Eagles defeated the Hawks 84-65, ending Harper's season.

The Hawks got off to a quick start and had the #2 seed Golden Eagles reeling.  Through the first ten minutes, Harper was up 18-8 and looked to be on the way to a first round upset.  However, the Golden Eagles showed why they are ranked #4 in the nation and put together some runs through the end of the half.  In the last minute, the Hawks were down by a basket but Rock Valley hit a three to give them some breathing room and went into the half with a 36-31 lead.

Rock Valley took that momentum and took advantage of a few missed shots to expand their lead to double digits.  The Hawks were not able to string together a run and Rock Valley got hot from the three point line, eventually ending the Hawks' season with an 84-65 loss.

Harper ends their season at 4-26 overall and 2-12 in conference.  In a trying year for the Hawks, they also showed glimpses of the team they can be.  The highlight of the year came in an overtime win against Madison College in the middle of January.  The Hawks also scraped together a big team win against COD on February 3rd.

Freshman Jesse Young was the Hawks' leading scorer with 23 points per game, putting him 9th in the nation.  Young also led the team with 8.6 rebounds per game and finished with 8 double-doubles.  Mid-season addition Sean Richardson, playing in his first organized games in a decade, made an instant impact an led the Hawks with 4.9 assists per game.
