Box Score PALATINE, IL- The #5 ranked Harper College volleyball team hosted N4C opponent Milwaukee Area Technical College Stormers on Tuesday night. The Hawks won the match in straight sets.
After a tight 4-3 lead to begin the night, serving-guru
Ella Roland (Elgin/Larkin) came in and contributed 4 straight service points. Harper was able to keep building after that point, leading 12-6 and 21-10 before the eventual 25-10 first set win. Harper was in total control in the second set, as they went ahead quickly 8-2 and 12-6. However, the Stormers were able to mount a furious comeback and make the set close but the Hawks closed it out with a 25-20 score. The third set was not like the others as the Hawks found themselves trailing 8-10 and 10-12. Harper was able to kick it into gear, eventually tying the set at 17 and then taking a 21-17 lead after 4 service points (including 2 aces) from Student Government Association VP/Sophomore Middle Hitter
Lydia Schiller (Hoffman Estates/Classical Consortium Academy). Harper would then finish out the three-set sweep with a 25-21 win.
Gabby Fugle (Island Lake/Wauconda)Â led the Hawks with 8 kills while
Abby Wemple (Johnsburg/Johnsburg),
Ashley Rothenberg (Streamwood/Streamwood), and
Mackenzie Bush (Bartlett/Bartlett) had 6 kills each. Harper served at a 90.4% clip and totaled 14 aces.Â
Carlene Colton (Lake in the Hills/Huntley) finished with a team-high 11 digs.Â
Kayla Agoranos (Hampshire/Hampshire) had 15 assists and
Kathleen Gueco (Hanover Park/Hoffman Estates) added 13 of her own.
With the win, the Hawks are now on a three-match, nine-set winning streak bringing their overall record to 11-7 (4-1 N4C). Harper's next match will be another N4C matchup, this time against the Madison College Wolfpack. The match is set to begin at 6pm in Madison.
