Box Score Harper lost to Moraine Valley 22-25, 13-25 14-25

Palos Hills, IL: Harper played at Moraine Valley this evening on Sophomore night. Moraine Valley gave a very classy sendoff to the 7 Sophomores that graduate from their very talented team.
Despite the loss, which on paper appeared to be lopsided, Harper played pretty tough! In the first set, Harper took the lead 4-1. But Moraine Valley tied the score at 5-5… and then 8 more ties at 8-8, 10-10, 11-11, 12-12, 13-13, 14-14, 15-15 and 17-17. But at that point Harper fell behind 17-19, and then the referee reversed a line call so now Harper was behind 17-20 with Moraine Valley serving instead of 18-19 and Harper serving. Harper continued to trail 19-23 and lost 22-25.

The second set started out similar, but then took a turn. Harper led 4-1 again, but Moraine Valley tied the score at 5-5, 6-6 and 7-7… At 8-12 there was a long, competitive and exciting rally when finally Moraine Valley won the point on a tip over the block. Moraine continued to play well and pushed to a 12-20 lead, and Harper lost 13-25. Harper struggled in this set with only 4 total kills, but also had just 4 hitting errors which leads to the conclusion that Moraine Valley simply played terrific defense.

In the third set, Harper fell behind 3-7, and 5-15… Moraine Valley coasted to a 14-25 Moraine Valley win.

Next up: Regional Playoffs! On Saturday at Rock Valley at 10:00 a.m. #1 seed Harper College will play the winner of the #4 seed College of DuPage and #5 seed Joliet. At noon, the other semi-final will be played. The Region IV Final match will be Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
