Harper College defeated Milwaukee Area Technical College 25-17, 12-25, 25-16, 25-22

Tuesday, September 18, 6:00 p.m. at Alverno College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Harper College opened with a win in the first set 25-17. 

In the first set, Harper took an 8-4 lead.  At 8-7, Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) served all the up to a 12-7 lead when Milwaukee called a time out.  Naturally, as the volleyball gods mandate, Harper missed the ensuing serve.  Harper maintained lead at 16-11, and then extended to 20-12 on the way to a 25-17 win.  Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) started out sizzling with 6 kills on 9 swings.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) added 3 kills on 8 swings.  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 12
assists.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) had 9 digs.  Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) was 7-7 serving.

The second set took a left turn for Harper College.  Harper started out a little bit behind at 1-4, 3-7, and 4-9, but then suddenly behind a lotta bit at 6-14 and 8-18 on the way to a 12-25 drubbing.  Oops!  Kathleen Alimorong (/Hoffman Estates H.S.) had 6 assists, and Ashley Rothenberg () led Harper with 4 kills.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) had another 5 digs.
At this point, the match was tied at 1-1 in sets. 

The third set started out at 2-2, and then a slim Harper lead at 5-3 when Harper missed a serve.  At 8-4, Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) got loose for 9 serves in a row including 3 aces to extend the lead to 16-5.  Harper pushed the lead to 18-8 and 22-9 before a 25-16 win.  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 9 assists in this set.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) was hot this set with 5 kills on 12 attacks.  Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.) added 4 kills on 8 attacks.  Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) was 10-11 serving with 3 aces in this set.

This 2-1 set advantage set the stage for a very exciting 4^th set against a suddenly confident Milwaukee team!  The score started out tied several times at 1-1, 2-2, 5-5, 6-6 and 7-7 when Harper attained its first assist… then 8-8, 9-9, 10-10… and 13-13.  Harper took a brief 15-13 lead, and extended to as much as 17-14, but then Milwaukee tied the score up again at 17-17… then 18-18, and 19-19.  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) served a couple nice points to a 21-19 lead…  At 22-21, setter Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) dug an opponent's bomb down the line for a very timely, crucial and amazing dig;  Harper converted that dig into a point… and Harper went on to win 25-22 to avoid a deciding 5^th set.  There were 12 ties in this last set.  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 11 assists.  Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) playing right side had 3 kills, and Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) added 3 more for a match-high 12 kills for Harper.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) led Harper with 6 digs, and had Harper's lone ace in the set.

There was construction on 'EVERY' road Harper traveled to and from Milwaukee… Quentin Road North, East on 22, and North on 94!!  Major delay driving there and major delay coming home.  Interstate 94 South was actually closed; had to take secondary road detours home!!

Then on Saturday, 9/21, Harper is off to Michigan to play at Lake Michigan college against Hope College, Grace College and Lake Michigan College.  Game times are noon, 2:00 p.m., and 4:00 p.m. EASTERN time.
