Harper College defeated Grace Christian University, 25-22, 25-20, 25-16
Harper College has a busy day ahead of them, today. Three matches are scheduled with Grace Christian University, Hope College JV, and Lake Michigan College… all in a row.
In the first match against Grace Christian University, Harper started out behind 3-6 and 5-10, but caught up at 10-10, 12-12, 15-15 and 16-16. Harper fell behind 16-20, and realized that there have been 8 unforced hitting errors at that point. Harper adjusted and caught up again at 21-21, on the way to a 25-22 win in the first set.
Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.) led Harper with 5 kills.
Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 10 assists. Rugile had 4 kills. Defensively,

In the second set, Harper fell behind 0-4 on some relatively uncharacteristic mistakes right in a row. But Harper tied the score at 5-5, 6-6… then 10-10, 13-13 and 15-15. Harper took a 19-15 lead and Grace Christian called a time-out. Harper extended the lead to 22-18 on
Amelia Reiter's (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) serves. Harper finished with a 25-20 win.

Ashley Rothenberg (/Streamwood H.S.) and
Ariell Davis (/Buffalo Grove H.S.) each added 3 kills.

In the final set, Harper took a 7-2 lead, and extended to 14-7 when Grace Christian called a time out. Harper extended to 18-9, when Grace Christian mounted a mini-comeback to 21-15; but Harper prevailed 25-16.
Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) had 5 kills on 8 swings.
Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 11 more assists for a total of 33 assists for the match.
Ashley Rothenberg (/Streamwood H.S.) had 6 digs, and
Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) added 5 more for a match high 22 digs.
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) added 5 digs, and was close behind with 16 for the match.
Harper College defeated Hope College JV, 25-19, 25-16, 26-24
The first set against Hope College started out close at 7-7 and 8-8. But Harper got on a roll and led 23-17 on the way to a 25-19 win. Harper rode the back of
Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) who had 7 kills.
Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) added 6 digs.
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), playing libero this match had 8 digs.
In the second set, Harper had just one hitting error the entire set.
Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) had 4 kills, and
Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) added 3 more kills.
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), had another 8 digs.
Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) got loose serving and was 8-8 with an ace in this set.
In the final set, there was a barnburner that really makes you appreciate the beauty of volleyball. Harper started out behind at 2-5 when there was a stoppage due to blood on a jersey. Harper fell behind 2-8, but nearly caught up at 7-9 when
Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) lost her shoe (dare we say, again?) Harper kind of dug a new hole and fell behind 7-11. Eight of those 11 points were Harper hitting errors. Harper continued to flail and ended up behind 10-16, and 11-20 at its lowest point. However, undaunted, Harper mounted a furious comeback and got within 18-21, and then 20-23. Harper continued to fight hard, and tied the score at 23-23, and 24-24 when Hope College missed a serve. Harper took advantage and won 26-24.
Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) led Harper with 4 kills. Harper only had 6 other kills in this exciting set. Defensively,
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) was all over the court with 11 digs, for a match-high 27 digs.

Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) did it again with her serves and was 8-8 serving; but alas, no ace this time.
Harper College defeated Lake Michigan College, 25-19, 25-27, 26-24, 25-17
Now, for the main event… Harper College versus Lake Michigan College. Harper fell behind in the first set 4-8 and 5-10. At 8-12, Harper had already hit 6 attacks out of bounds. Harper continued to flounder at 11-16, but turned the tide with some terrific execution and hustle and won 25-19.
Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) had 4 kills.
Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.) had 3 kills on 4 attacks.
Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) back from her match off had 9 more digs.
Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) added 5 digs.
Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) was blistering at the service line with 11-12 serving and 3 aces.
In the second set, Harper fill behind 5-10, again, and 10-15. Harper did tie the score at 17-17. At 20-17, Harper had a phantom foot fault called which allowed Lake Michigan to catch up at 20-20, then 21-21, and 22-22. Harper College took a 24-22 on a nice free ball smash from
Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.). However, Lake Michigan College was able to tie the score at 24-24 and 25-25, and went on to win 25-27. Nothing is ever easy!
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), continuing to play right side had 5 kills.
Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) added 4 kills on 5 attacks. Setter
Kathleen Alimorong (/Hoffman Estates H.S.) had 12 assists and 8 digs.
Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) and
Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) each had 6 more digs.
Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) and
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) were each 6-6 serving, and
Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) added an ace.
In the third set. Harper took a seemingly commanding lead at 11-5, and maintained to a 16-11 lead. But Lake Michigan chipped that lead away to 19-16 and finally tied the set at 19-19 when an obvious back-row attack was not called. The score was knotted at 20-20, and 22-22 again. Harper took a 24-22 lead, but Lake Michigan refused to go away and tied the score at 24-24. Harper fortunately won the last 2 points and won 26-24.

The final set saw Harper continue execute and transition well with leads of 7-2, and 19-9, and 20-11 on the way to a 25-17 win.
Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) finished up her day with 4 kills on 5 attacks. The story here was
Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) had 5 rejections that resulted in 3 blocks.
Kathleen Alimorong (/Hoffman Estates H.S.) had 2 aces, and
Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) and
Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.) each had an ace as well.
