Harper College defeated Hope College JV, 25-19, 25-16, 26-24

The first set against Hope College started out close at 7-7 and 8-8.  But Harper got on a roll and led 23-17 on the way to a 25-19 win.  Harper rode the back of Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) who had 7 kills.  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) added 6 digs.  Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), playing libero this match had 8 digs.

In the second set, Harper had just one hitting error the entire set.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) had 4 kills, and Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) added 3 more kills.   Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), had another 8 digs.  Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) got loose serving and was 8-8 with an ace in this set.

In the final set, there was a barnburner that really makes you appreciate the beauty of volleyball.  Harper started out behind at 2-5 when there was a stoppage due to blood on a jersey.  Harper fell behind 2-8, but nearly caught up at 7-9 when Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) lost her shoe (dare we say, again?)  Harper kind of dug a new hole and fell behind 7-11.  Eight of those 11 points were Harper hitting errors. Harper continued to flail and ended up behind 10-16, and 11-20 at its lowest point.  However, undaunted, Harper mounted a furious comeback and got within 18-21, and then 20-23.  Harper continued to fight hard, and tied the score at 23-23, and 24-24 when Hope College missed a serve. Harper took advantage and won 26-24.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) led Harper with 4 kills. Harper only had 6 other kills in this exciting set.  Defensively, Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.) was all over the court with 11 digs, for a match-high 27 digs.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) added 5 digs.  Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) did it again with her serves and was 8-8 serving; but alas, no ace this time.

Harper College defeated Lake Michigan College, 25-19, 25-27, 26-24, 25-17

Now, for the main event…  Harper College versus Lake Michigan College.  Harper fell behind in the first set 4-8 and 5-10.  At 8-12, Harper had already hit 6 attacks out of bounds.  Harper continued to flounder at 11-16, but turned the tide with some terrific execution and hustle and won 25-19.  Kelsey Bauer (/Palatine H.S.) had 4 kills.  Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.) had 3 kills on 4 attacks.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) back from her match off had 9 more digs.  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) added 5 digs.  Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) was blistering at the service line with 11-12 serving and 3 aces.

In the second set, Harper fill behind 5-10, again, and 10-15.  Harper did tie the score at 17-17.  At 20-17, Harper had a phantom foot fault called which allowed Lake Michigan to catch up at 20-20, then 21-21, and 22-22.  Harper College took a 24-22 on a nice free ball smash from Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.).  However, Lake Michigan College was able to tie the score at 24-24 and 25-25, and went on to win 25-27.  Nothing is ever easy!  Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), continuing to play right side had 5 kills. In the third set.  Harper took a seemingly commanding lead at 11-5, and maintained to a 16-11 lead.  But Lake Michigan chipped that lead away to 19-16 and finally tied the set at 19-19 when an obvious back-row attack was not called.  The score was knotted at 20-20, and 22-22 again.  Harper took a 24-22 lead, but Lake Michigan refused to go away and tied the score at 24-24.  Harper fortunately won the last 2 points and won 26-24.  Kayla Agoranos (/Hampshire H.S.), Rachel Kandefer (/Elk Grove H.S.) and Amelia Reiter (/Crystal Lake South H.S.) each had 3 kills.  Kathleen Alimorong (/Hoffman Estates H.S.) had another 10 assists.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) had 10 digs due to some long rallies.  Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) was 7-8 serving with 2 aces.
