Another streak gone.  Harper previously won 17-straight against Joliet Jr. College, dating back to 9-14-2013… (8 years).  Joliet has an excellent team this year, just like the other teams in the Rugged N4C Conference.

In the first set, there were many ties at 2-2, 4-4, 5-5, 7-7 and 8-8, before Harper took a slim 11-8 lead.  At 12-8 Joliet called timeout.  Harper continued to lead 16-12.  At 19-15, Joliet took another timeout. Harper committed a service error, and then lost 3 more points on serve receive to tie the score at 19-19, then 20-20 when Harper missed another serve…21-21 and a 21-25 loss.  Joliet did a good job turning this set 'around', and earning momentum.  Cassie Schweikle (/Glenbard East), and Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) each had 3 kills.  Setter Alyssa Rodda (/Barrington) led Harper with 7 digs.  Libero Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) had 5 digs.  Alyssa Rodda (/Barrington) was 6-7 serving.

Joliet took that momentum into the second set and had a 2-7 lead, and maintained that lead throughout at 5-9, 10-15, 12-17, 15-20 and a 19-25 win.  Natalia Smiech (/Dundee-Crown) had 6 kills to lead Harper.  DS Daniela Pineda (/Buffalo Grove) led Harper with 5 digs.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) was 6-6 serving.

In the third set, there were ties again at 5-5, 6-6, 12-12, and 13-13… Harper took a slim 15-13 lead again, then 16-14… 21-25 and held on to a 25-21 win.  Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) added another 4 kills and a block, and Katie Hofmann (/Elk Grove) added 4 kills and a block.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) led Harper with 7 digs.  Daniela Pineda (/Buffalo Grove) added 5 digs.  Natalia Smiech (/Dundee-Crown) was 9-10 serving with 2 aces, and Joliet called 2 timeouts during one stretch of her serves.

In the last set, there were ties at 4-4 and 7-7, before Joliet led 12-16 and then 14-20 on the way to a decisive 17-25 win.  Vicky Gorny came alive with 4 kills, and Natalia Smiech (/Dundee-Crown) added 3 more for a match-high 13 kills for Harper.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) and Taylro Pfaller each had 5 digs.  Daniela Pineda (/Buffalo Grove) added 4 more digs.  Alyssa Rodda (/Barrington) was 5-5 serving.
