Harper College defeated Madison College 3 straight 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.  Natalia Smiech was back in this match.

In the first set, there were ties at 3-3 and 4-4…. Harper fell behind badly 4-9, 10-15 and 11-17.  Harper made a flurry of a comeback to 16-20, and 22-23 when Madison called timeout.  Harper scored the final 3 points to win 25-23. Momentum means so much… 1-0 is WAY different than 0-1 in sets.  Katie Hofmann (/Elk Grove) had 5 kills.  Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) had 3 kills and 3 solid block-kills.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) led Harper with 13 digs.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) led Harper serving – 10 of 10 with an ace, in this 2-point set.
 
The second set became an epic battle between 2 heavyweights.  Harper fell behind again 4-8 and 7-11…  but tied the score 9 times at 12-12, 13-13, 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, 18-18, 19-19, 20-20 and 21-21 before Harper took a 24-22 lead and a 25-23 sliver of a win.  But at this point, Harper had a 2-0 lead and more momentum.  Katie Hoffman added 4 more kills.  Natalia Smiech (/Dundee-Crown) had 3 kills.  And Patricia Wadas (/Hoffman Estates), although had no kills, had 3 block-kills!  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) led harper with 7 digs.  This time Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) led Harper with 8-9 serving with an ace in this 2-point set.
 
The third set was another close one… both teams fighting hard – ties at 1-1, 3-3… there was a mad scramble at 8-6…, 9-9, 12-12 15-15 and 16-16 before Harper went up 20-16.  Madison got back to 20-19 when Harper called timeout and somehow scored the last 5 points in a row to win 25-19.  A very exciting close 3-0 match win for Harper College tonight in Madison.  Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) led Harper with 2 kills and 2 blocks.  Jules led Harper with 9 digs in this last set…  Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 7 digs, and Natalia Smiech (/Dundee-Crown) had 5 digs.  This time, Alyssa Rodda (/Barrington) led Harper with 5-5 serving and 2 aces.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) was 5-5 serving and an ace and Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) was also 5-5 serving.  Katie Hofmann (/Elk Grove) added 2 aces.
 
For the match, Katie Hofmann (/Elk Grove) led Harper with 11 kills on 20 attacks.  Patricia Wadas (/Hoffman Estates) and Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) each had 5 block-kills.  Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) led Harper with 29 digs and led Harper's serving with 17 of 18 and 2 aces in this close 3-0 match.
