Harper Hawks win home opener

57-37 over Elgin Community College

Box Score Palatine IL, 11/2/2021

The Harper Hawks took the home opener of the women's basketball season 2021-2022 , and did it in convincing fashion. The Hawks dominated early and often ending with a 20 point win against Elgin Community College. The Hawks started the game with a quick 8-0 run led by Isabella Gebala (of Prospect High School). Bella had 6 of the first 8 points for the Hawks. Izzy Aviles (of Lake Park High School) helped the Hawks dominate the paint. Izzy chipped in 10 of the 38 points scored inside and did her part on the offensive and defensive glass as well collecting 16 total rebounds!

Elgin Community College got the game back to within 3 points by halftime, but the sharp shooter Emily Rich (of Crystal Lake South) help the Hawks extend their lead to 18 by the end of the third quarter. Rich finished the game with three made 3's and a total of 17 points. The Hawks defense was on it's game, giving up the least amount of points 37 by a Harper opponent since 2017! A big reason for that acivement was Megan Kleves (of Hersey High School) snatching 5 steals, 4 of those coming in the 2nd half.

The Hawks take on a tough Oakton team next Tuesday at 6pm at Oakton Community College.

GO HAWKS!!!
