Palatine, IL: In the first set, Harper started out 0-4 on some passing errors. Harper stormed back against the Stormers to tie the score at 5-5. Harper took commanding 11-6 and 22-7 leads before winning 25-6. Vicky Gorny led Harper with 6 kills… which were in a row on her last 6 swings of the set. Patricia Wadas (/Hoffman Estates) added 3 kills. Setter Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 10 assists. Not too many digs were needed in this set, and Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 3 of them to lead Harper. Katie Hofmann's (/Elk Grove) serving was terrific – She was 11-11 serving with 3 aces.
In the second set, Harper started out with an 8-2 lead when the Stormers called a timeout. Harper came back and scored another point at 9-2 and the Stormers called another timeout. After the timeouts and the lineup for the Stormers was resolved, Harper finished this set 25-6. Vicky Gorny had 3 more kills before Milwaukee dug one of her hits, ending her 9 kills in a row streak… Rugile Jaciunas (/Wheeling H.S.) had 3 kills on 3 attacks, and Katie Hofmann (/Elk Grove) had 4 kills on 5 attacks Setter Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) had 13 assists in this set. In this set, Jocelyn Mercado (/Schaumburg) had 5 digs playing libero. Daniela Pineda (/Buffalo Grove) was 7-7 serving, and Jocelyn Mercado (/Schaumburg) was 8-8 serving with 3 aces.
In the third set, Harper took a strong 8-2 lead, and extended to 14-7 before winning 25-10. Katie Hofmann (/Elk Grove) and Cassie Schweikle (/Glenbard East) each had 2 kills. Harper only needed 8 kills in this third set. Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.), back at libero had 6 digs. Taylor Pfaller (/St. Viator) was 9-9 serving with 2 aces, and Jules Carusiello (/Hersey H.S.) was 8-8 serving with 2 aces.
Harper is now 9 wins and 5 losses, and is currently ranked #3 in the nation.
In the Volleyball Region this year we have a very interesting picture being painted. Rock Valley, with their 16 Freshman, are ranked #1, College of DuPage, with their 15 Freshman, are now finally ranked at #7, and Joliet Junior College, with their 20 Freshman, are ranked #9… Harper is ranked #3 which means all FOUR teams from this rugged N4C Conference are ranked in the national Top 10 poll respectfully! But only ONE of these teams will have the automatic bid for region at the NJCAA National Tournament later this year. All of these teams can hold their own AT-LARGE
