Box Score Harper Volleyball defeated #2 College of DuPage 12-25, 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 15-12
At Harper College, Palatine, IL, October 13, 2022
In the first set Harper Volleyball quickly fell behind 0-5, and called a time out. Harper continued to flounder to a 0-9 deficit. Floundering continued until Harper fell behind 11-21 and lost 12-25. At this point, it did not look good for the good guys!
In the second set… There were ties at 3-3, 6-6, 7-7 and 10-10. Harper took a slim 13-10 lead, and Harper extended the lead to 17-12, 20-15. College of DuPage closed the gap to 22-20, but Harper finished with a 25-22 win to tie the match at 1 set apiece.
In the third set, Harper staked a slim 7-4 lead, but COD closed to 7-7. Harper again extended the score to 11-7 and 15-10. COD closed the gap again to 17-17. There were more ties at 18-18, 19-19 and 20-20. Then Harper took a 23-20 lead behind
Cassie Schweikle's (Lombard/Glenbard East H.S.) serving until she missed at 24-20. But Harper earned game point to win 25-22.
In the fourth set… There were ties at 1-1, 4-4, 5-5, and 6-6. Harper took a healthy lead at 11-6, but COD closed to 11-10 and tied the score at 13-13 and 14-14. Harper took another lead to 19-15. Then Harper missed a serve and three unforced hitting errors closed the score to 19-19. There were more ties at 20-20 and 21-21 in this heavyweight battle.
Katie Hofmann (Des Plaines/Elk Grove H.S.) uncharacteristically blasted one attack out one way and then the other way to fall to 21-23. Harper lost 23-25 to tie the match at 2 sets apiece.
In the fifth set… there were ties at the start at 1-1, 2-2, 3-3 and 4-4. Harper took a slim lead to 7-4 and kind of nursed the set and match to the end… 10-7, 11-9, 12-10, 13-10, 13-11, and 15-12.
There is a flurry of next matches. Harper plays at Rock Valley tomorrow, Saturday, 10/14 against Bryant and Stratton of Wisconsin at 11:00 a.m., then D2 #10 Illinois Central at 3:00 p.m., and then a rematch against College of Lake County at 5:00 p.m..
On Saturday, 10/15, Harper travels to Lake Michigan for another pair of matches. First match is noon EASTERN time against a renewed (after 26 years off) volleyball program at Southwestern Michigan. Harper Volleyball then plays a 4:00 p.m. match against host Lake Michigan College.
