Harper traveled to College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn to play 4 matches this weekend.
On Friday, August 25, Harper opened up against Joliet Junior College, and then played against John A. Logan College.
On Saturday, Harper College played Genessee, all the way from New York and then host College of DuPage.
Harper defeated Genesee, but lost the other 3 matches. Harper is now 4-5 on the season, and will not be ranked in the top 10, at least for several more weeks one would think.
DIII Harper College lost to DIII Joliet Junior College in 5 sets: 19-25, 25-21, 15-25, 25-19, 13-15
Friday, Aug 25, 3:00 p.m. Glen Ellyn, IL: Harper lost a close one 13-15 in five sets.
In the first set, Harper fell behind early at 3-5, but tied the score at 12-12, before falling behind 14-17, 17-19 on the way to a 19-25 loss.
In the second set, scores were knotted at 4-4, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10, 12-12, 13-13 and 15-15. Finally Harper took a 20-15 lead on the way to a 25-21 win.
In the third set, with the set score tied at 1-1, Harper fell badly behind right off the bat 0-7. Harper never really closed the gap… 4-10, 7-15, 13-18, 15-21 and a 15-25 loss.
In the fourth set, Harper reversed its fortunes… The game started out close at 2-2, 3-3 and 7-7. Harper took a slim lead at 11-9, and nursed to a 20-15 lead and a 25-19 win to set up a 5th set.
In the Fifth set, there were ties at 2-2, 6-6, 7-7, 9-9, 11-11 and 12-12, before losing 13-15 on a missed serve.
DIII Harper College lost to DI John A. Logan College: 16-25, 18-25, 17-25
Friday, Aug 25, 7:00 p.m. Glen Ellyn, IL: In the first set, Harper fell behind quickly against a very talented John A. Logan team… 3-10, 4-15, 10-19 and a 16-25 loss.
In the second set, things didn't go much differently… Harper fell behind 5-7, 8-14, and a 18-25 loss.
In the 3rd set, Harper fell behind 12-17 on the way to a 17-25 loss.
DIII Harper College defeated Genessee, NY: 25-19, 25-7, 25-13
Saturday, Aug 26, 11:00 a.m. Glen Ellyn, IL: In the first set, Harper jumped out to an 8-3 lead. Harper and Genessee then had ties at 9-9, 12-12, 13-13, 14-14, 15-15, 16-16 and 17-17 before Harper righted the ship for a 25-19 win.
In this second set, Harper started out 7-1 behind some terrific serving from
Abby Major; then 16-2 behind some excellent serving from
Jasmine Nitu. Harper then won 25-7.
In the third set, Harper pulled out the same playbook.
Major served Harper to a 9-1 lead; and
Nitu served to a 14-5 lead. Harper won 25-13.
DIII Harper College lost to DIII #1 College of DuPage in 4 sets: 12-25, 25-16, 19-25, 15-25
Saturday, Aug 26, 1:00 p.m. Glen Ellyn, IL: Harper played College of DuPage on the main court, and there were some wild swings.
In the first set, Harper fell behind 4-14 (10 points) on the way to a 12-25 loss.
In the second set, Harper led 15-9, extended to 20-11; returned the favor and led by 10 points at 24-14 before winning 25-16.
In the third set, Harper fell behind again at 3-9, but pulled close at 10-12. However, College of DuPage's defense caused Harper to fall behind 12-23 (11 points), before Harper lost 19-25.
In the final set, a frustrated Harper team fell behind 5-13, on the way to a 15-25 (10 point) loss.
Harper is now 4-5 for the season, and will play at Elgin on Monday, August 28, at 6:00 p.m.
