Hawks Open Outdoor Season with Strong Performances at North Central

Naperville, IL: The Hawks kicked off their outdoor season in impressive fashion at North Central College's First Chance Invitational at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, competing in a two-day meet on March 28-29. The team wasted no time setting the tone for the season, meeting the national qualifying standard in 11 events and recording 14 personal bests.

Lucia Sanchez Scriven and Natalia Pocica led the charge with standout performances. Sanchez Scriven continued her dominance in the jumps, pole vaulting 9' 0.5", long jumping a personal best 17' 8.25", and triple jumping another personal best at 34' 0.75". She now holds the top national ranking in pole vault and long jump while sitting third in triple jump. Pocica also had a stellar meet, setting a new personal best in triple jump at 35' 3.75", securing the number two national ranking. She also clocked 61.92 in the 400m, ranking her second in the country.

On the track,
Zoe Pavlu and Perla Vargas both sprinted to new personal bests in the 100m, hitting the national standard with times of 13.60 and 13.18, ranking them seventh and fourth, respectively. Vargas added another qualifying mark in the 200m, running a personal-best 27.40, which places her fourth nationally.

In the throws,
Hannah Schulz and Rose Wagner had a strong two-day showing. Both met the national standard in discus and hammer throw, with Wagner also qualifying in shot put. Competing in javelin for the first time, the duo gained valuable experience while also solidifying their presence in the field events. Wagner and Schulz are both ranked in the top 10 nationally in shot put and discus, while they currently hold the No. 1 and No. 2 spots in hammer throw.

The Hawks' 400m relay team added to the impressive weekend, hitting the national standard with a time of 51.54, which currently ranks them second in the nation.

With a strong start to the outdoor season, the Hawks will look to build on their momentum at their next meet, the Chicagoland Championships hosted by Elmhurst.
