Hawks Continue to Shine at Chicagoland Championships

Elmhurst, IL: The Hawks continued their strong outdoor season with a busy weekend at the Chicagoland Championships, which spanned three days across two venues. Wheaton College hosted the throwing events on Thursday, while Elmhurst University held the running and jumping events on Friday and Saturday. The Hawks added two more national qualifiers—Natalia Pocica in the 100m and Lucia Sanchez Scriven in the 400m hurdles—and turned in multiple personal bests across the board.

Thursday – Throws at Wheaton

Zoe Pavlu, Hannah Schulz, and Rose Wagner represented the Hawks in the throws, with Schulz and Wagner competing in the shot put, discus, and javelin, and Pavlu focusing on javelin. Schulz and Wagner continue to rank among the best in the nation in shot put and discus, showing consistency and progress. All three athletes are still developing in the javelin, gaining experience with each meet.

Friday – Sprints, Hurdles, and Long Jump at Elmhurst
Friday featured the 100m, 100m hurdles, and long jump.
Pocica delivered one of the standout performances of the day, running a national-qualifying 100m time that places her in the top five nationally. Perla Vargas also ran a strong 100m, while Pavlu notched a personal best with a time of 13.55. In the hurdles, Delaney Gale continued her rise with a personal best of 15.99 in the 100m hurdles, which ranks her second in the country. Sanchez Scriven jumped 15' 11" in the long jump.

Saturday – Relays, 200m, 400m, 400m Hurdles, and Triple Jump
Saturday was packed with action, and the Hawks responded with more standout performances.
Pocica and Sanchez Scriven continued to lead the way, both competing in multiple events. Pocica set two personal bests—61.43 in the 400m and 36' 3.5" in the triple jump. Sanchez Scriven hit a new personal best in the 400m hurdles, running 73.06 to meet the national qualifying standard, and added a triple jump of 33' 7.25". Gale also competed in the 400m hurdles, continuing to gain experience in the event. Vargas joined Pocica in the 400m, while Pavlu ran in the 200m.

The relay teams rounded out the day with solid performances, clocking 52.03 in the 4x100m and 4:24.85 in the 4x400m.

The Hawks will return to competition this Saturday at the Tiger Open hosted by Olivet Nazarene, looking to build on their strong early-season momentum.
