Hawks Finish Second at NJCAA Great Lakes District Championship, Qualify All Ten for Nationals

Muskegon, MI: The Hawks wrestling team turned in another strong postseason performance at the NJCAA Great Lakes District Championship, hosted by Muskegon Community College on February 21. The Hawks finished second overall, trailing only host Muskegon, and claimed honors as the top Region 4 finisher.

Harper crowned three individual district champions—
Lennon Steinkuehler (141 lb), Aiden Cohen (165 lb), and Joshua King (285 lb)—each of whom put together dominant runs through their respective brackets. Steinkuehler broke through for his first postseason title with a composed effort at 141, while Cohen continued his outstanding season by controlling his weight class start to finish. King capped the day with a heavyweight title, using his size and strength to close out the tournament on a high note for the Hawks.

Four more Hawks advanced to the finals and finished as runners-up:
Truth Vesey (125 lb), Maguire Hoeksema (157 lb), Tyson Poyer (174 lb), and Noah Brockie (184 lb). Each battled deep into championship rounds, securing valuable team points and automatic qualification for nationals. Samuel Sikorsky (133 lb) and Michael Galloway (149 lb) both finished third, earning their way to the national tournament, while Michael Merevick (197 lb) rounded out the Harper lineup with a fifth-place finish—good enough to qualify all ten Hawks for the NJCAA National Championship.

With the full roster headed to Council Bluffs, Iowa, the Hawks will look to make another strong national showing when competition begins March 6–7. The team departs on Wednesday, March 4, as Harper aims to carry its momentum into the final stage of the 2025–26 season.
