Harper Wins Third Straight Over Elgin

ELGIN, Ill. – The Harper College baseball team put the finishing touches on a perfect weekend, topping Elgin Community College 4-1 for their third straight victory.

Ryan Busse (Prospect Heights, Ill., Hersey) threw all nine innings, scattering eight hits for his first complete game of the season.  The left-hander allowed two straight hits to open the sixth inning as the SpartaCats pushed across their lone run but Busse retired the next three to thwart the threat.

Harper jumped on top right away as Brett Sklena (Skokie, Ill., Niles North) reached after getting hit by a pitch and John Caravia (Norridge, Ill., Ridgewood) walked.  Two batters later, Connor McHugh (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Schaumburg) hit a sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks added to that lead in the fourth as McHugh was right in the middle of another Harper rally.  After Nick Spagnola (Algonquin, Ill./Dundee-Crown) doubled to lead off the inning, McHugh produced a RBI single.  Dan Duran (Skokie, Ill., Niles West) then plated McHugh with a double to make it 3-0.  The Hawks scored their last run on a RBI single from Nick Spagnola (Algonquin, Ill., Dundee-Crown) in their eighth inning.

Up next, Harper hosts South Suburban College on Tuesday at 3:00 PM.
