GLEN ELLYN, Ill. – A day after splitting a conference double-header, the Harper College baseball team beat the College of DuPage 10-7 in a contest that wasn't counted towards the N4C standings.
Harper (13-18, 3-3 N4C) used a big third inning to get ahead.
Nick Spagnola (Algonquin, Ill., Dundee-Crown) led off the frame with a double before
John Caravia (Norridge, Ill., Ridgewood) plated him with a single.
Connor McHugh (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Schaumburg) put two runners in scoring position with a double and
Dan Duran (Skokie, Ill., Niles West) registered the team's fourth straight hit with a double and two RBI. After a strike out,
Kevin Robinson (Schaumburg, Ill., Conant) doubled. Three batters later,
Anthony Colosimo (Lake Forest, Ill., Loyola Academy) singled to score Robinson and
Mark Sarti (Palatine, Ill., Palatine) to give the Hawks a 6-0 lead.
DuPage pushed across one run in the third but Harper increased their advantage in the fourth. Walks to Caravia and Duran and a fielder's choice from
Brett Sklena (Skokie, Ill., Niles North) loaded the bases for Robinson, who delivered a two-run single.
Up 8-6 in the eighth inning, Harper added two insurance runs. Spagnola drove in Colosimo, who reached on an error, for the team's first run. A walk to McHugh moved up Spagnola and Duran's fielder's choice brought him home.
Ryan Busse (Prospect Heights, Ill., Hersey) earned the win, tossing seven innings and surrendering six runs.
Dan Hoppel (Rolling Meadows, Ill., Rolling Meadows) came in for the final two innings and struck out two.
The team will host North Central College on Tuesday in non-conference action. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
