DES PLAINES, Ill. – Oakton Community College scored five runs in the sixth inning and that was ultimately enough to beat the Harper College baseball 7-4 and end the team's three-game winning streak.
Up 2-1 in the sixth, starting pitcher
Tyler Tureck (Barrington, Ill., Barrington) and the rest of the Hawks were unable to old the lead as the Raiders seized control of the lead for good.
Harper (15-19) took the lead right away as
Nick Spagnola (Algonquin, Ill., Dundee-Crown) led off with a single. The third baseman eventually moved up on a groundout and
Kevin Robinson (Schaumburg, Ill., Conant) drove him home with a single. The Hawks added to that lead in the fourth when Robinson drew a one-out walk and scored on a base hit from
Ricky Janokowicz (Carol Stream, Ill., Glenbard North).
Trailing 6-2 in the eighth, Harper cut the lead in half with two runs, highlighted by a base hit from
Brett Sklena (Skokie, Ill., Niles North) to plate
Dan Duran (Skokie, Ill., Niles West). Oakton (29-12) added one in the bottom half of the frame to set the final margin.
Sklena went 2-for-3 with a walk while Spagnola and Janokowicz also had multi-hit games.
Though he kept the Raiders off the board for the first three innings, Tureck yielded six runs, four of which were earned, in his six innings of work and took the loss.
Up next, Harper returns to N4C play with a double-header on Saturday against Joliet Junior College (24-23). First pitch is slated for noon.
