South Suburban's Big Inning Sinks Harper

PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College baseball team fell behind early and was unable to mount any sort of comeback in a 11-3 loss to South Suburban College.  The Bulldogs cranked out 15 hits and used a big third inning to distance themselves from the Hawks.

Harper pulled out to a 1-0 lead in the second but South Suburban had six runs in the third inning and a single run in the fifth to jump ahead 7-1.  The Hawks struck for another run with two outs in the home half of the fifth.  Brett Sklena (Skokie, Ill., Niles North) singled and stole second before advancing to third on an error.  Nick Spagnola (Algonquin, Ill., Dundee-Crown) then plated Sklena with a single.

The Hawks got their final run in the eighth as Connor McHugh (Hoffman Estates, Ill., Schaumburg) singled and stole second.  With two outs, Dan Duran (Skokie, Ill., Niles West) delivered an RBI single.  McHugh and Sklena each registered multi-hit games to lead the Harper offense.

Ricky Janokowicz (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard North) took the loss as he pitched six innings and gave up six runs.

The Hawks play again tomorrow at 3:30 PM as they take on #16 Kankakee Community College.
