Box Score 2 PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College baseball team was swept by visiting Madison College on Tuesday afternoon, losing 7-4 and 13-0.
In the first game, the Hawks (3-8) used a three-run fifth inning to take a 4-2 advantage. Chuck Terron (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) tied the game at 2-2 with an infield single, and Roy Pettingill (Mount Prospect, Ill. /St. Viator) followed with a two-run single to right field.
Madison (6-8) responded with three runs in the top of the sixth inning, capped off by Courtney Watkins' go-ahead two-out RBI single to give the WolfPack a 5-4 edge. The WolfPack scored two more times in the seventh off Austin Royse (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) (0-1).
Ryne Blanton pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the seventh to preserve the victory for the WolfPack. Derek Heffel (2-0) surrendered three earned runs and struck out seven in six innings of work to pick up the victory. Royse got the loss for Harper, allowing three earned runs in three innings of relief.
The Hawks managed eight hits in the game. Terron was 2-for-2 with an RBI while Jake Miller (Valparaiso, Ind. /Valparaiso ) was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Harper managed just five hits off of Madison starter Brandon Parr (1-1) in game two, and the WolfPack bats exploded for 12 hits, including three home runs (Brandon Gibis, Mike Jordahl, Matt Cole). Madison scored five runs in the first, six in the third, and two in the fourth.
Hawks starting pitcher Clint O'Neal (Farmer City, Ill./Blue Ridge) (0-2) lasted just two innings in the loss. Andrew Haney (Milton, Wis. /Milton) and Ryan Nudd (South Elgin, Ill./St. Edwards) were both 2-for-2 at the plate.
