JOLIET, Ill. – The Harper College baseball team drew the four-seed and will play their Region IV Sectionals at Joliet Junior College on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10.

The seeding for the region goes as follows:

#1-Joliet Junior College (30-23)
#2-College of DuPage (38-18)
#3-Illinois Valley Community College (30-16)
#4-Harper College (12-30)
#5-Waubonsee Community College (13-35)
#6-Rock Valley College (12-39)
#7-Milwaukee Area Technical College (6-39)

Harper, Joliet, and Rock Valley will play a three-team round robin tournament at Joliet Saturday and Sunday. DuPage, Illinois Valley, and Waubonsee play a three-team tournament at DuPage Saturday and Sunday. The winner of each sectionals earns a spot in the Region IV Finals held at Boomers Stadium from May 15-17. The two winners will play a best-of-three series with a berth to the NJCAA Division III Baseball World Series on the Line.

Regular Season Recap

The Hawks finished the regular season with a 12-30 overall record and 6-18 record in North Central Community College Conference (N4C) play. Harper finished sixth in the conference. Madison College won the conference regular season title with a 23-1 mark in league play.

The Hawks finished the regular season 6-13 at home, 5-16 on the road, and 1-1 on neutral fields.

Season Series' Against Joliet and Rock Valley

With the new format for conference play this year, the Hawks played each conference foe four times. At Joliet on March 30, the Hawks scored twice in the seventh to take a lead and held on for a 5-4 win. Joliet bounced back for a 10-0 triumph over Harper in game two.

At Harper College on April 14, the Wolves swept the Hawks with 11-2 and 6-0 victories.

Harper played at Rock Valley on April 3, losing both games by the scores of 3-2 and 6-4. When the Golden Eagles came to Harper on April 19, they swept the Hawks again with 3-1 and 12-2 wins.

Key Players for Harper

Sophomore left fielder Chuck Terron (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) (.388 average, one homer, 18 RBIs, 18 steals) will be counted on for production near the top of the lineup. Designated hitter Roy Pettingill (Mount Prospect, Ill. /St. Viator) (.352 average, two homers, 26 RBIs) will also be counted on to drive in runs while sophomore center fielder Tyler Crussen (Wheeler, Ind. /Wheeler) (.345 average, 11 RBIs, 14 steals) will set the table at the top of the lineup.

Right fielder Matt Hayes (Princeton, Ill./Princeton ) (.304 average, 11 RBIs) will be leaned on for his bat as well, and first baseman Kevin Conrad (Twin Lakes, Wis./Wilmot) (.273 average, two homers, 13 RBIs) gives the Hawks some more power in the lineup.

Harper has a trio of pitchers who have won at least three games apiece, led by Nate Paprota (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield Central) (4-4, 4.39 ERA in 41 innings). Matt Ittersagen (Wheeler, Ind./Wheeler) (3-5, 32 strikeouts in 40 innings) and Brandon Kaminski (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic ) (3-4, 4.60 ERA, two complete games) will likely be leaned on for quality starts. Austin Royse (Elgin, Ill./Larkin) (0-2, 4.61 ERA) and Chris Simon (La Grange, Ill./Marmion Academy) (1-0, 6.08 ERA) will be counted on for valuable innings as well.

Key Players for Joliet

The Wolves' offense starts with N4C Player of the Year TJ Condon (.426 average, nine homers, 66 RBIs). Outfielders Ron Sessler (.369 average, seven homers, 47 RBIs, 11 steals) and David Hill (.352 average, two homers, 35 RBIs) are also key components to the Joliet lineup. Freshman Jake Drada (.335 average, three homers, 33 RBIs) will also be counted on for production.

Thomas Jeffries (8-2, 3.20 ERA) anchors the rotation for the Wolves. Nick McKinney (5-1, 2.95 ERA) and Thomas Goodyear (3-3, 2.83 ERA) will also eat up innings. Closer Trevor Maly (2-3, 2.82 ERA, four saves) has made a team-high 23 appearances this season.

Key Players for Rock Valley

Infielder Richie Velez made an impact in the first meeting with the Hawks. The sophomore was 3-for-7 with an RBI in the two victories at Rock Valley. Zac Skwarek and Brock Boeselager picked up the wins on the mound for the Golden Eagles.

In the doubleheader at Harper, Jason Fidder pitched a complete game, allowing only an unearned run, in a game one victory. In game two, Boeselager went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, and Rico Esparza was also 4-for-4 with three RBIs.
