PALATINE, Ill. – The Harper College women's basketball team struggled in two key departments in Wednesday night's contest with Joliet Junior College. The Hawks managed only 11 field goals, shot 27.5 percent (11-of-40), and also turned the ball over 25 times in a 57-33 loss to the Wolves.
The Hawks (4-15, 0-4 N4C) were just 3-of-20 from the field in the first half. Joliet (11-8, 2-2 N4C) led 12-5 on the effort of Angelina Byers (game-high 22 points), who scored all of her team's points in the quarter. Byers had 18 points by halftime as the Wolves led 24-12.
Joliet continued to grow its lead as Tamari McAfee (10 points, six assists) and Chavon Banks (10 points, 13 rebounds) did much of their damage in the second half. The few bright spots from the Hawks came from freshmen Tamara Zivak (/Barrington), Lexi Zades (/Conant), and Mary Saitta (Hoffman Estates, Ill./Hoffman Estates). Zivak scored all of her team-high 14 points after halftime. Zades scored nine points in 32 minutes off the bench, and Saitta scored eight points and snagged six rebounds.
The Hawks are still in search of their first N4C win and will look to get on track on Saturday at Milwaukee Area Technical College (11-8, 3-1 N4C). Tipoff is set for 1 PM.
