Palatine, Ill- The Harper College men's basketball team picked up its first win of the 2016 season by beating Olivet Nazarene-JV 87-73 on Thursday evening. The Hawks (1-6) took an eight-point lead into the break behind strong play from Chima Oduocha.

Oduocha scored twelve points in the first half, making all five of his shots and adding two free throws. The freshman center would finish his night with a double-double (18 points, 10 rebounds).

"Chima is a guy who did not get that much time in high school," said head coach Sean Stochl. "He is a guy who we have let play through some mistakes early in the year, but he is starting to figure some things out for us."

In the game, Harper shot 40 percent from the field while holding Olivet to just 33 percent. The Hawks also won the turnover battle by three and recorded two more offensive rebounds than their opponent. In the end, winning in both of those categories might have been the difference in the game as Harper shot eight more times than Olivet.

"At the start of the season we had some things to figure out," Stochl said. "It's a new system this season with a new group of players. I think we are starting to get it."

Next the Hawks will hit the road for a battle with Waubonsee Community College (2-2) on Nov.19 at 3PM.
