JOLIET, Ill. – The sixth-seeded Harper College women's basketball team traveled to third-seeded Joliet Junior College for a NJCAA Region IV Quarterfinal showdown. Last season, the Wolves ended the Hawks' season in the Region IV Quarterfinals. Looking to enact revenge this year, Harper struggled on the offensive end and saw its season end with a 50-25 loss.
The Hawks (4-24) played solid defense on the Wolves (16-12) throughout the game, limiting the hosts to just 32 percent (19-of-60) shooting on the night. The two teams were tied 8-8 after one quarter.
Joliet scored 19 points in the second quarter to take a 27-14 lead into halftime. Harper had a tough time scoring throughout the contest, as they made only 8-of-51 shots (15.7 percent) and 2-of-19 3-pointers. The Hawks scored only 11 second half points.
Nastia Solsaa (Menomonie, Wis. /Menomonie ) led Harper with a team-high nine points to go along with five rebounds. Ashonte Sims (Bloomington, Ill. /Normal Community West) added five points and four rebounds, and Kim Herzog (/Buffalo Grove) and Tamara Zivak (Barrington, Ill. /Barrington) both scored four. Jamari McAfee paced Joliet with 12 points and five assists, and Angelina Byers had 10 points. Post player Hillary Dietahin had six points and 15 rebounds for the Wolves, who held a 43-27 rebounding edge.
With the win, the Wolves advance to the Region IV Semifinals against No. 2 seed Madison College. The two teams will play at Region IV Tournament host Milwaukee Area Technical College on Friday at 1 PM. In other playoff action on Tuesday, No. 4 Seed Milwaukee Area Technical College advanced to the Region IV Semifinals with a 91-51 win over College of DuPage. The Stormers will play No. 1 seed Rock Valley College on Friday at 3 PM. The Region IV Championship will be played on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 1 PM. For full Region IV Tournament coverage, click here.
