Box Score 2 MADISON, Wis. – The Harper College softball team ran into solid pitching at Madison College on Tuesday afternoon. The Hawks mustered only five hits on the afternoon and lost a doubleheader to the host WolfPack.
In the first game, the Hawks (1-11, 0-7 N4C) managed just one hit off of WolfPack (19-12, 7-2 N4C) starting pitcher Jenalee Wilson (10-3) in a 12-0 loss in five innings. Sophomore first baseman Emily Butler (Prospect Heights, Ill./Hersey) had the only hit Harper, and Danielle Reptowski (Hanover Park, Ill./Schaumburg) reached base on a walk. Madison collected 16 hits off Harper starter Isabelle McGuinnis (Arlington Heights, Ill. /Hersey).
In game two, Courtney Russ (Lake Zurich, Ill. /Lake Zurich) had a two-out RBI single in the first inning to put the Hawks ahead 1-0. But the WolfPack hitters once again had a strong game at the plate, scoring 16 runs on 16 hits in the first four innings. The Hawks scored twice in the third inning on another RBI base hit from Russ and an error on a McGuinnis fly ball to right field. Russ was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored.
McGunnis (1-10) lasted three innings in the circle for the Hawks before giving way to Russ, who pitched her first inning of the season. Elizabeth Wahl earned the win for the WolfPack as she lasted 2 2/3 innings and struck out three.
Harper will be back on the diamond on Wednesday afternoon at Joliet Junior College (1-21, 1-8 N4C). First pitch of game one is set for 3 PM on the campus of Joliet.
