Volleyball Region 4 Championship Preview: Harper v MATC

Milwaukee, WI: Hawks Volleyball is set to embark on their first NJCAA DII Region 4 Championship run, marking a milestone season for the program. After moving up from NJCAA DIII, Harper has shown resilience and growth despite some tough competition. The Hawks come into the tournament as the 12th seed and will face a familiar opponent, 5th-seeded Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC), in the opening round.

Harper has faced MATC twice in the regular season, with both games ending in defeat. Their first encounter was a competitive 3-1 match, where Harper managed to take a set off MATC but couldn't maintain momentum. The second game, however, was a decisive 3-0 win for MATC, showcasing the challenge Harper faces heading into this first-round matchup.

Harper will need to learn from those two losses and come prepared with a strategy to break MATC's defensive lines and capitalize on any gaps in their formation. In the first game, Harper proved they could win a set but struggled to sustain their offensive pressure across multiple sets. Finding ways to extend rallies and win long points could be critical.

The stakes are high in a single-elimination tournament, so the Hawks will need to stay calm and composed, especially if the match becomes tightly contested. MATC has the psychological edge of two previous wins, but Harper can approach this game with an underdog mentality, focusing on executing their game plan without the weight of expectation.

The winner of this first-round battle will advance to face the winner of Black Hawk or MCC, adding even more incentive for Harper to come out strong. Both Black Hawk and MCC are formidable teams, but Harper will focus on the task at hand, knowing that if they can pull off the upset over MATC, they'll carry some serious momentum into the next round.

Harper's first appearance in the NJCAA DII Region 4 Championship is a chance to show the progress they've made this season and to set the tone for the future. Win or lose, the Hawks are building a foundation at the DII level that they can carry forward in seasons to come.
