Softball & Baseball with Busy Week

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4 Palatine, IL: The Hawks' baseball and softball teams have been busy over the last three days with seven games. The baseball team has had three games at home while the softball team has had two home and two away.

Softball
The Hawks' softball team had a double-header at home vs Prairie State on Wednesday and another at Kishwaukee earlier today.

At home the Hawks lost the first game 2-3 while rebounding to win the second game 10-6. Out west against Kishwaukee the Hawks lost the first game closely again 0-2 and the second 7-16.

The Pioneers got on the board fast in the first game with a double in the first inning that scored one. The game was scoreless until the fifth when the scored again to go up two. In the bottom of the inning the Hawks got on the board themselves with a
Cana Jones single that brought in Brianna Linnemann to bring the game to 1-2. The Pioneers scored again to give themselves a two run buffer in the sixth. There was a last inning rally by the Hawks in the seventh as Taylor Goudschaal hit a single to score Kate Peabody. The Hawks ended the inning with the bases loaded however. Linnemann pitched a completed game with six strikeouts.

The team came ready for revenge in game two as they scored five runs in the first two innings to get out to a lead that they held onto throughout the game. The Pioneers did work their way back into the game but the Hawks retaliated with a five run fifth inning to put the game away. Four Hawks had multiple hits with
Jones leading the team with three. Goudschaal and Ella Brooks each had a double, Linnemann had a triple, and Jones, Goudschaal, and Isabella Aviles all hit home runs. Jones and Aviles each had two RBIs. Olivia Gould started the game and went six innings striking out three en route to the win.


at Kishwaukee
The first game against the Kougars was a duel between
Linnemann and Alyssa Wilkerson. The Hawks only had two hits while Linnemann only gave up six herself. She had 10 strike outs in six innings. Jones and Amanda Ban were the two Hawks to hit singles.

The bats came alive for both teams in the second game but the Hawks got off to a 0-4 start. The game eventually made it to 4-4 before the Kougars scored nine runs over the course of two innings.
Jones did most of the damage with two home runs but Aviles added one as well. Jones had five RBIs and Aviles had two. Goudschaal added a double. Gould started the game going five and a third innings striking out five.


The Hawks will play next at Sauk Valley tomorrow at noon.


Baseball
The Hawks played three games at home with a single nine inning game vs Illinois Valley on Thursday and a double-header vs Morton on Friday. The Hawks beat the Eagles 12-9 on Thursday but were eaten up by the Panthers on Friday 8-22 and 4-14.

The Eagles were on the board first with a four run inning in the third. The Hawks responded in the bottom of the inning with three runs themselves.
Quinton Johnston doubled to score Anthony Milano. Tommy Jusi was intentionally walked to load the bases for Brian Jensen who then singled to bring in Johnston.

Illinois Valley added one in the fourth but Harper scored four started off with a
Cole Ratliff double before Samuel Del Valle singled to left to bring him in. The bases were eventually loaded after a Milano hit-by-pitch and Kyle Odeshoo single. Johnston hit a sac-fly to score Del Valle. Jusi singled to bring in Milano. Then Odeshoo scored on an error after a Jensen ground ball before Jusi was out going for home.

The Eagles wouldn't go away tying the game at seven in the fifth but the Hawks scored five runs in the sixth and seventh inning to get to a comfortable lead. Two of the runs came in the sixth on errors by the Eagles and the other two on ground balls in the seventh by
Odeshoo and Jusi that scored Mason Hulligan, Johnston, and Odeshoo.

Steven Byrne went seven innings with two strike outs to earn the win for the Hawks.

vs Morton
The Hawks jumped out to a five nothing lead in the first game before allowing 22 runs in three innings.
Milano had a home run and a double. Mitchell Janczak started for the Hawks allowing seven earned runs in three and two thirds innings.

In the second game the Panthers jumped out to 11 runs in the first two innings and never looked back.
Kaleb Nelson hit a bases clearing double in the third. Josh Mathew and Cameron King also doubled, but the offense couldn't get much going besides that.

Mathew continues to get hit by pitches ranking in the top ten in the nation while playing less games than the rest of the top ten. Jake Sarnecke started for the Hawks pitching one inning before Joey Bisesi took over for the next four.


The Hawks will play McHenry at home next on Monday.
