Back-to-Back National Champs!

Utica, NY: Your defending National Champion Hawks are now the 2x defending National Champions. With 17 women competing over the three days, the Hawks accumulated 194 points to beat runner-up DuPage with 123. The Hawks also outscored the 2023 championship team which finished with 138.5 points.

The day started with long jump as
Lucia Sanchez Scriven and Lily Wintergerst finished 3rd and 5th with marks of 16' 9.25" and 16' 3.25". Sanchez Scriven set a personal record with her mark. Wintergerst is still undecided about her future but is leaning towards competing for North Central College. 

Kaili Decker and Melanie Kehr ran personal records in the 1500m to finish 5th and 8th with times of 5:13.26 and 5:19.46.

Kasey Ledinsky and Rose Wagner threw discus in the last throwing event of the meet. Ledinsky set a personal record finishing 6th with a mark of 100' 10" and Wagner finished 9th with a mark of 84' 0".

The 400m relay team ran as expected with a 2nd place finish and a time of 51.22. They ran an order of
Svetlozara Uvakova, Perla Vargas, Natalia Pocica, and Zoe Pavlu. Uvakova will continue her athletic career at North Central College.

A national meet record was set by the Hawks in the 400m with
Lilly Alberts running an incredible 55.85 to become national champion. This was also a personal record for Alberts and a school record for the Hawks. Araxi Boghossian finished 3rd with a time of 61.20. Pocica ran a personal record time of 61.72 to finish 4th and make the Hawks' All-Time Top 10 List. Alberts will be competing for Grand Valley State next year while Boghossian will be attending the University of Illinois to pursue engineering.

Uvakova also ran in the 100m finishing 3rd with a time of 12.75.

Chloe Wintergerst ran a huge personal record while Sanchez Scriven just missed hers in the 100m hurdles with times of 15.70 and 17.66. Wintergerst was the national champion while Sanchez Scriven finished 7th. Wintergerst's time also moved her into 2nd on the Hawks' All-Time Top 10 List. She will be pursuing a degree in education and plans to try to walk on at Illinois State University.

Another national meet record was set in the 800m as
Alberts broke her record from 2023 with a time of 2:13.78. Decker came back after the 1500m with another personal record 2:31.11 to finish 5th. Brianna Ruiz ran a strong race to finish 8th with a time of 2:35.77.

Wintergerst(C) was back with another personal record in the 400m hurdles, this time with Ledinsky. They finished 2nd and 6th in times of 69.54 and 74.51. The time also moved Wintergerst up to 5th on the Hawks' All-Time Top 10 List.

In the 200m,
Uvakova ran 26.95 to finish 4th while Boghossian ran 27.97 to finish 8th.

The 5k was the last distance event as three Hawks raced.
Isabella Wojciechowski ran a personal record 19:01.92 to become national champion. The time also moved her up to 3rd on the Hawks' All-Time Top 10 List. Claudia Wojciechowski finished 4th with a time of 19:56.99. Danielle Giovenco ran a personal record time of 21:35.18 to finish 12th.

Wrapping things up in style was the 1600m relay team which won by over 10 seconds with a season best time of 4:03.24. They ran an order of
Boghossian, Pocica, Vargas, and Alberts with splits of 61.6, 61.8, 63.5, and 56.2.

The top eight finishers in the meet earned USTFCCCA All-American status while the top three finishers earned NJCAA All-American status.

Coach
Jim Macinder was named the USTFCCCA Central Region Coach of the Year as well as the National Coach of the Year while Coach John Majerus was named the USTFCCCA Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year.
