Hawks Past Meets Present in Annual Alumni Volleyball Game

Palatine, IL: In a thrilling 5-set match down to the wire, the 2025 Harper Volleyball team faced off against the Harper Volleyball Alumni team, losing in five sets: 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 21-25, 19-25 (2-3).

This year's Harper Volleyball Alumni team was outstanding; featuring four NJCAA All-Americans, and 6 players from the 2016 National Championship team including the National Tournament MVP.

On the court, the Alumni team included: Clara Moravec (2011, 2012), Hannah Moore (2015, 2016), Katelyn Sommers (2015, 2016), Kathryn Novy (2016), Kayla Mayer (2015, 2016), Morgan Krieter (2024), Rachel Kandefer (2019), Sam Wallenberg (2011-2012), and Sarah Udoni (2016-2017), and Dr. Veronica Dabrowski (2012-2013) pictured here with her 4-month old newborn. Congratulations! Also present were Maya Sokolowski (2023, 2024), Jeanie Janz (2001, 2002) with her 3 kids, Jean Supan (2001, 2002), and Marielle Lugo (2016, 2017) who is our current assistant coach.

The stands were filled with friends, family, and siblings of both the current players and alumni plus a bunch of Harper Women's basketball players supporting the match, making for an unforgettable night. Coach Bob Vilsoet commented, "This is always my favorite match of the year. I get to see many of the players that played at Harper over the years! The Alumni helps our current team get better; they get to see who is playing on this year's team, plus they get to enjoy another match at Harper College; and get to see their volleyball teammates and friends, again. I'm encouraged for this year's team. This year's team barely lost in an intense close match played against a very battle tested wise Alumni team. And of course, thanks to the Harper staff for hosting this event, especially Paige Erland and Daniel Garay, plus of course current Athletic Director Jim Macnider. Fun stuff!"

The Alumni team is on a hot streak, and have won all the matches since 2017. Overall, Harper Volleyball is 12-14 against the Harper Alumni since the inaugural Alumni match was started way back in 2005.
